On Monday evening, it was announced that Telugu star Jr NTR will be collaborating with ace filmmaker Siva Koratala once again for his 30th film. The yet untitled film will be a pan India film. The last time the actor-director duo joined forces they made the film Janata Garage. The film was a massive hit with Malayalam film superstar Mohanlal sharing screen with Jr NTR. While the film was made in Telugu language, its dubbed version worked wonders in the North belt. Fans of the actor are expecting yet another hit from the duo. The film will be released on April 29, 2022.
What’s more interesting is that Jr NTR’s pan Indian film will be clashing with Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 and Ajay Devgn’s directorial MayDay starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh. In December, Ajay Devgn had announced that his film will be releasing on April 29, 2022. While Salman Khan has not officially announced the release date of Tiger 3, it is a known fact that the superstar treats his fans with the release of his film every Eid. At present, the actor is shooting for Tiger 3 and the film is expected to be released by Eid 2022. While there was a major buzz among trade of a clash between Devgn’s MayDay and Khan’s Tiger 3, now Jr NTR’s pan India film has also joined the race.
While the Hindi film audience will largely be divided at the box-office between MayDay and Tiger 3, the south Indian audience is most likely to lean over to Jr NTR and Siva Koratala’s film. Siva Koratala and Jr NTR’s success rate as a duo currently stands at 100 percent after the massive success of their last outing in 2016 with Janata Garage. What also works for Jr NTR is his pan-India appeal which is expected to see a push after the release of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR (October 13, 2021). Salman Khan, is an undisputed king when it comes to box-office and has a dedicated fan base in the North belt especially when it comes to single screen theatres. Apart from Salman's dedicated fan base, what works for Tiger 3 is that it is part of a successful franchise and anticipation around the film is high.
Meanwhile, ahead of Jr NTR’s clash with Ajay Devgn for Eid, the two will also be facing a clash in October this year with the release of Maidaan in which Devgn plays the protagonist. Maidaan produced by Boney Kapoor will be released on October 15. The box office results in October will give a clearer picture of how the box office will be divided for Eid 2022. Interestingly, Devgn also has a special appearance in RRR.
Ever since the makers of Ek Villain Returns announced the film, there has been a lot of excitement amongst the fans for the same. The film is one of the only big-ticket multi-starrers that is currently on floors. Starring John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor & Tara Sutaria, the action thriller arrives in 2022.
After wrapping the first schedule in Mumbai recently, the makers are all set for the second schedule. While the first schedule was shot extensively across multiple locations in Mumbai, the second schedule goes on-floors in Goa. The makers took this decision of shifting the shoot location after carefully analyzing the rising Covid cases in Mumbai. With the possibility of a lockdown, it made sense to move the shoot outside the city since it’s a large production that calls for several big action pieces, big romance portions which can only be shot in live locations.
Director Mohit Suri, who along with his team flew down to Goa a few days back for a quick recce, is all set to begin shooting for the movie from 16th April! Interestingly, Ek Villain was also shot in Goa, just like some of Mohit’s other films including Malang, Aashiqui 2 among others.
Talking about taking the film’s second schedule shoot to Goa, Ekta Kapoor shares, “Shooting during these times is hard on the cast & crew, but they’ve shown fantastic resilience and great teamwork and have turned things around at such short notice; we are ready to roll this week. The scale and mounting of the film call for live, scenic locales instead of studio floors. Also, Goa has always been a character in itself in Mohit’s films. So I am excited to see how Mohit will showcase Goa in Ek Villain Returns.”
Adds Bhushan Kumar, “Our first schedule went off well in Mumbai last month, but with rising cases in the city, we have to be careful and ensure the safety of our cast and crew. Mohit and his team scouted some good locations in Goa where the team shoots next. Goa has always been an integral part of all Mohit’s films, Ek Villain Returns will also make the place an important character. The protocols laid down by our governments will be followed and we hope the shoot goes off well.”
Ek Villain Returns is directed by Mohit Suri and jointly produced by T-Series & Balaji Telefilms. Featuring John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani, and Tara Sutaria in pivotal roles, the film releases on February 11, 2022.

It's been more than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic as Asians continue to face extreme hate, trolling. In 2021, #StopAsianHate, #StopAAPIHate, #RacismIsNotComedy, #StopAsianHateCrimes hashtags have taken center stage and trended worldwide on Twitter amid the rise in the attacks against Asians. But, once again, the South Korean group BTS, which recently was nominated for a Grammy, has come under the spotlight for facing extreme racist and xenophobic remarks.
A day ago, a BTS fan club from Chile reported that a short sketch "Mi Barrio" on Chilean television did a parody on BTS. According to the translation via the fanclub, the parody showed seven people on the couch. When the interviewer asked them to introduce themselves, the band members said Kim Jong-Uno, Kim Jong-Dos, Kim Jong-Tres, Kim Jong-Cuatro, and Juan Carlos while mocking a member's name. Then, they were asked to speak in Korean as one of the so-called comedians spoke in accented gibberish allegedly mocking the language.
[THREAD] Last night, Chilean comedy TV show #MiBarrio (open TV channel available to the whole country) presented a parody performance of BTS, where all the jokes were based on racism and xenophobia, including mockery of their language, (cont.)

The fan club further revealed that the said channel has responded in the bare minimum way without actually acknowledging what was wrong with the short sketch in the first place. No apology has been released yet.
Hello, we come to you with an update. #MiBarrio has posted in ther Instagram account the following text.
We think that they won't release an apology and that they don't feel their actions are wrong. We understood from their instagram post they still believe that [cont+] pic.twitter.com/vevYcelLVE

Almost two months ago, BTS was once again subjected to racism after their MTV Unplugged performance when a German host used racist remarks towards the popular group. After tremendous backlash, the radio show and host released multiple bare minimum apologies. Celebrities who have worked with BTS, Asian stars among others stood with BTS and called out the racism of the radio host.
This isn't a one-off incident. During the promotions of 'Map Of The Soul: 7' in 2020 before the rise in the COVID-19 cases around the world, the group was subjected to racism on Howard Stern's show. Recalling the incident in the Weverse magazine in September 2020 after the 'Dynamite's' explosion globally, Howard Stern, the host of The Howard Stern Show of the SiriusXM staple, talked about coronavirus and BTS' visit on the show on February 21. He mentioned how their writer Sal Governale made racist remarks against the group by saying, “There’s no way those guys don’t have the coronavirus.” Howard Stern accused him of being racist and producer Gary Dell’Abate further added, “Every celebrity who walks through the SiriusXM door is traveling all over the world — not just Asians.”
Two weeks ago, BTS strongly condemned the rise in anti-Asian violence in a lengthy statement. "We send our deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. We feel grief and anger," the statement read.
"We recall moments when we faced discrimination as Asians. We have endured expletives without reason and were mocked for the way we look. We were even asked why Asians spoke in English. We cannot put into words the pain of becoming the subject of hatred and violence for such a reason. Our own experiences are inconsequential compared to the events that have occurred over the past few weeks. But these experiences were enough to make us feel powerless and chip away our self-esteem."
BTS further spoke about facing racism and being subjected to the discrimination they've faced over the years. Standing in solidarity with their Asian community and condemning the violence, BTS concluded their statement by saying, "We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together."

While ARMY continues to stand with BTS, with the rise in Anti-Asian hate, these incidents can't be downplayed. Netizens, celebrities continue to call out anti-Asian hate speeches and attacks. Racism in the name of parodies, jokes, and comedy should be ignored and people need to be held accountable for their actions.
A billion for BTS! The South Korean group and Grammy-nominated artists have achieved another milestone with their retro-disco-themed music video 'Dynamite'. The music video has surpassed 1 billion views.
On April 12, the music video crossed the billion mark in just seven months since its release. It makes 'Dynamite' the fastest music video by a Korean group in history to achieve this! This marks their third music video to achieve this status after 'DNA' and 'Boy With Luv' ft. Halsey.

This year, the band earned their first Grammy nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for 'Dynamite' and delivered a stunning performance taking their dynamic gig from the Grammy stage to a rooftop overseeing a breathtaking night view of Seoul.

The song, released on August 21, 2020, debuted at the top on the Hot 100 chart on September 5 and has now spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on the chart. BTS released their latest album 'BE (Deluxe Edition)' on November 20, 2020, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard 2020 with their title track 'Life Goes On' earning No. 1 spot on Hot 100 on Billboard charts. They earned their third No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart (following 'Dynamite' and Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo's 'Savage Love - Laxed – Siren Beat') and first with a Korean song. The title track became the first Korean song to ever top the chart. 'Dynamite' was the top-selling digital song of 2020 in the US with over 1.26 million downloads.

The latest addition to Goodbye, coming from Balaji Telefilms and Reliance Entertainment's den, is actor Pavail Gulati. The film that stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rashmika Mandanna, and Neena Gupta in pivotal roles, has gone on floors recently in Mumbai.
Pavail, who was last seen in Thappad as Taapsee Pannu's onscreen husband, will be essaying the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s son in the movie. Interestingly, this is not the first time the talented actor is working with Senior Bachchan. He has earlier shared screen space with the legendary actor in Yudh, the television series that aired in 2014.
An ecstatic Pavail, who begins shooting for the movie today, shares, "Goodbye is a very special film for me with my very special friends. Absolutely thrilled and excited to be part of it. The actor, who’s collaborating with Balaji Telefilms yet again after the recently wrapped Dobaaraa, further adds, "This is my second collaboration with Balaji Telefilms, Ekta, and Ruchikaa and I couldn’t be happier about this reunion. Last year, Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz collaborated with streaming giant Netflix for a supernatural thriller Bulbbul. Now a year after the film released we hear that Anushka and Netflix are set to collaborate on another supernatural thriller titled Qala. If that wasn’t all, it is also being said that the film will feature the late actor Irrfan Khan’s son Babil Khan alongside Tripti Dimri.
Commenting on the development a well-placed trade source tells us, “Qala is a beautiful heart-breaking story about a daughter who craves her mother’s love. The film will see late Irrfan Khan’s son Babil making his debut alongside Tripti Dimri. Besides these two Qala also features Swastika Mukherjee in a pivotal role.”
Taking to his Instagram handle to talk about his launch, Babil shared a video from the sets of the film saying, “Tripti freaking Dimri is back again!!!!!! Whooooooo!!! (and a little bit of me ❤️) Also I’m a bit skeptical about the phrase ‘getting launched’ because the audience should launch off their seats while watching our film and not any individual actor. "From the creators of Bulbbul, Clean Slate Filmz and Anvita Dutt, we bring you #Qala, a Netflix Original film. Qala will be here soon to share her story of her fight for a place in her mother's heart."
View this post on Instagram
Interestingly, Tripti shared that they have already completed the first schedule of the film that is being directed by Anvitaa Dutt. Posting about the same she added, “Wrapped up the first schedule of Qala.. Super happy and excited to be joining hands with such an amazing and enthusiastic team for the second time... From the creators of Bulbbul, Clean Slate Filmz and Anvitaa Dutt, we bring you #Qala, a Netflix Original film. Qala will be here soon to share her story of her fight for a place in her mother's heart.”
Netflix, today, revealed the first looks from the set of Qala starring Tripti Dimri, the lead actor in Bulbbul who swept hearts and accolades with her performance, along with Babil I. Khan. The film marks Babil’s debut and also stars Swastika Mukherjee.
Talking about the film, Anvitaa Dutt (Director) said, “Mother-daughter relationships are sacred and often complicated. Qala is a beautiful, heart-breaking story about a daughter who craves her mother’s love. I am ecstatic to have such incredible actors on-board and cannot wait for the world to discover the film with Tripti, Babil and Swastika. It's always a pleasure to partner with Clean Slate Filmz and Netflix as they believe in bringing to life empowered stories like Bulbbul, and now Qala.”
Karnesh Ssharma (Producer, Clean Slate Filmz) said, “At Clean Slate, our aim is to always produce content that stands out. Netflix, as a partner, shares the same vision which enables us to tell stories which are unique, clutter-breaking and heart-warming. After the success of Bulbbul, we are happy to announce our second film association with Netflix for Qala.”
“With Bulbbul, we found imaginative creative partners in Clean Slate Filmz to bring to life the stunning vision of Anvitaa Dutt. We are thrilled to reunite with them for Qala, and once again tell an intricate tale of a woman that we hope will resonate with many. We are also excited that the incredibly talented Tripti Dimri will be back on Netflix, this time with the promising Babil I. Khan, the newest addition to the growing Netflix family”, said Srishti Behl Arya, Director - International Original Film, Netflix India.
Not many remember Satish Kaul as Rehana Sultan’s handsome lover in the 1973 drama Prem Parbat where he played the sexed-up forest ranger Rehana ran to for sex when her aged husband Nana Palsikar was asleep. It was a bold film and Satish got lead roles in off-beat Hindi films like Nek Parveen, Mere Sartaj, and Ang Se Ang Laga Le. Like most failed lead actors Satish soon switched to supporting roles in big budget films like Shiva ka Insaaf and Inaam Dus Hazaar. He had insignificant roles in two Pahlaj Nihalani productions Ilzaam and Aag Hi Aag.
Pahlajji remembers Satish as “hard working, friendly, hungry for work, always eager to face the camera, always wondering where the next meal would come from.” Bitter and frustrated for the lack of work in Hindi cinema, Satish moved to Punjabi cinema where he had a relatively more successful innings with films like Jatt Punjabi, Lacchi and Rano. He was labelled the ‘Amitabh Bachchan Of Punjabi cinema’.
Not that it helped sustain his career. When roles in Punjab too began to dry up Satish moved to Indian television. He played small parts on television. He was seen in Vikram-Vetal and Mahabharat.
In recent years his financial condition went from bad to worse. With no family of his own (his wife apparently divorced him and left the country) Satish was forced to live in a charity home in Ludhiana. He died penniless in a hospital in Ludhiana, hungry for work, hungry for love, hungry for dignity. And just hungry.
No money for food. Satish’s final years are a lesson to all actors and technicians in Indian cinema who have no savings to fall back on during hard times. I remember the actress Vimi of the 1970s, a grand B R Chopra discovery who was launched with fanfare in the hit Humraaz. Soon her career floundered and flopped. With no money and career she drank herself to death.
Her corpse had to be loaded on a hand cart to be taken to the crematorium. Satish Kaul was a bit less unfortunate.
Tamil-Hindi star-actor R Madhavan, quarantined at home with Covid, can’t wait to get back to work. “Just a few more days to go, then I can get back to working on Rocketry,” says Madhavan about the film on the life of NASA scientist Nambi Narayanan which has caught PM Narendra Modiji’s attention.
Describing with unalloyed joy his meeting with PM Modi where Maddy apprised our Prime Minister on the Nambi Narayanan bio-pic’s progress, Madhavan says, “It is all God’s grace. I’ve given this project my blood sweat and tears for more than five years. To now have our Prime Minister himself express an interest in the project is a blessing. I hope I don’t let the PM and our nation down.”
About getting back to normal life after the Covid quarantine Maddy says, “I am feeling much better now. I have just a bit of a cough. I will get myself tested in a couple of days. But I should be fine.”

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Tiger 3 has already gone on floors. While the third instalment of the Tiger franchise will see a new face with Emraan Hashmi, some old players will also be back in Tiger 3. Ranvir Shorey, who essayed the role of Khan's handler Gopi Arya in Ek Tha Tiger (2012), will reprise his role in Tiger 3.

“Badhaai Ho, you have tested Negative,” I pun-joked with filmmaker Amit Sharma whose new ambitious venture Maidaan promises to do for football what Lagaan did for cricket and Chak De for hockey.
Amit who has now fully recovered from Covid laughs nervously. “The idea is to do my best. We have invited football players from the all across the world to come and play in our matches for Maidaan: Japan, South Korea, France, and Thailand… there is some problem getting Australian players to come to India because the country is under lockdown.”
A series of matches will now be shot for Maidaan showing India playing football with different countries.
Informs Amit, “In fact the players from Thailand are already here .They have been waiting for me to recover from Covid. We start shooting them from April 4. We then go on to shoot matches with the other countries with a break between every match. It is a tough schedule. We were supposed to start shooting from March 16. But then who we would have thought I would be felled with Covid like this?”
Amit says the football matches will be shot on an international scale. “There will be no compromise on quality. We are trying to make a film that we hope India will be proud of. When I directed Badhaai Ho I never set out to make something that would have such an impact on the audience. I am so glad all the actors in Badhaai Ho specially Neenaji (Gupta) benefited from it.”

The maker of Soni, director Ivan Ayr, pens his thoughts on what makes his next film - Milestone, one about a journey that mirrors modern-day struggles. Milestone was awarded Best Film at the 31st Singapore International Film Festival. The film premieres globally on Netflix on 7th May 2021.
Director Ivan Ayr says, "Milestone is an illustration of an individual’s struggle to find relevance. At the heart of the story is a seasoned truck driver, Ghalib, against the backdrop of a cut-throat capitalist system. I chose a truck driver’s perspective to highlight this struggle because I see something peculiar in the nature of the occupation. An inherent contradiction: mobile, but stuck within the confines of their own truck - which somewhat mirrors modern life in general. We are all prisoners of our own perspectives, becoming increasingly detached from the world around us. As Ghalib comes face to face with one of the painful aspects of the cycle of life - the young replacing the old - he realizes that covering physical distances does not necessarily mean that one is getting anywhere in life."
"Though the beginnings were quite humble (with just me and my producer scouting locations and touring truck stops), the film was very ambitious from the start. Milestone was officially selected by two of the most prestigious film festivals in the world - Venice, and Busan; both renowned for discovering and showcasing some of the best cinema every year. The film was awarded the top prize at the 31st Singapore International Film Festival, and lead actor Suvinder Vicky won Best Performance," he adds.
"Through a meditative narrative that immerses the viewers in its atmosphere, I invite Netflix’s global audiences to experience the tender emotions of the story's seemingly hardy characters and ultimately get close enough to the protagonist so that they feel his deep-seated fears of life’s unexpected changes," he concludes.
Produced by Kimsi Singh, the poignant film follows the story of a recently bereaved, middle-aged truck driver, Ghalib, who is coping with a personal tragedy and the consequences thereafter, while facing the existential threat of losing his job to a young recruit. The events in the story come together as Ghalib's truck touches the 500,000 kilometers mark - a record at his company.
