While everybody is talking about the close resemblance between Salman Khan’s new film Tubelight and a 2015 Hollywood war epic Little Boy, the one glaring kinship to greatness that everyone seems to be missing has to do with Raj Kapoor rather than the little-seen Hollywood film which the film adapts.
In almost every gesture in the teaser and the newly-released song Sajan radio bajaiyo Salman pays a tribute to Raj Kapoor’s Eternal Tramp image in the classics Awara and Sree 420.
Tubelight director Kabir Khan doesn’t deny the resemblance between Salman in Tubelight and Raj Kapoor in Awara and Sree 420.
An ardent Raj Kapoor fan Kabir has constructed Salman’s on-screen persona in Bajrangi Bhaijaan and now Tubelight to echo the sweet guileless innocence of Raj Kapoor in his most famous roles.
Kabir and Salman will probably extend the Raj Kapoor influence into a third film to complete a trilogy.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni whose life story turned out to be one of the most successful films last year [M.S. Dhoni - The Untold Story], recently had a close match with Mumbai Indians. The IPL that saw the win of the latter last evening has now come to an end and now, the star cricketer of the country, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is wrapping up his endorsements.
The popular skipper who is one of the faces for the bike brand TVS, was recently seen shooting for a commercial with none other than the actor turned filmmaker Prabhu Dheva. Let us remind you that the actor entered the industry as a choreographer and he is one of the most iconic dancers of the country. So ‘jab they met’, the two of them ended up shaking a leg with each other.
In more of what Shah Rukh Khan would like to call ‘Lungi Dance style’, we spotted Prabhu Dheva teaching some steps to MS Dhoni. If you are wondering about the South connection that the cricketer shares, then readers may recall that Dhoni was the captain of Chennai SuperKings, one of the most popular teams in Indian Premiere League, that however got suspended for two years for being involved in a match-fixing controversy.
A video of MS Dhoni and Prabhu Dheva dancing in a lungi is definitely viral material which was shared on social media by fans recently.
Earlier this year in January, we had reported that KriArj Entertainment had joined hands with actor- producer John Abraham to produce six films, later last month we had reported that after its deal with Abraham, KriArj Entertainment had roped in Diana Penty for a two film deal. Well now we hear that the production house has locked a deal with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for the latter’s next venture.
In fact, it is learnt that KriArj Entertainment has joined hands with Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra Pictures to jointly produce their next film together which is slated to go on floors shortly. Though details of the film are currently unavailable, it is learnt that the casting for the said project has been locked and will be unveiled in the coming few days with an official announcement.
The Central Board of Film Certification has given Priyanka Chopra’s large-screen debut Baywatch a clean chit with all the bikini shots intact. However we now hear that the film may be shown in India with Priyanka Chopra’s bikini shots “somewhat curtailed.”
The decision apparently comes in the light of the actress’ fans being not too happy with the thought of excessive skin exposure in beachwear.
Says an informed source, “Priyanka Chopra in beachwear is perfectly fine, and we do have a thriving beachside culture in many parts of coastal India. However she is superstar with a slightly more conservative fan-following in India which may not be too happy with her bikini shots beyond a point. Indian audiences like to see our leading ladies in bikinis for only one shot or one sequence. That is why Baywatch may be released in India with some of Priyanka’s beachside shots reduced. But nothing substantial.”

Eye of the Tiger! I am sure you will put all of your heart and soul into it…Never give up young man!”
When Tiger came across the post, he was thrilled to see the reaction of Slyvester Stallone and responded to the same, “There will always and only be ONE "eye of the tiger" for us cubs you rule the jungle! Thank you so much sir! @TheSlyStallone.”
Besides the Hollywood superstar, congratulatory messages and well-wishes have been pouring from all quarters of the fraternity for Tiger Shroff. The film is to be directed by Siddharth Anand.
Readers may recall that the filmmaker had expressed his desire to make this remake last year and since then, there were several speculations about the actors being roped in for the role of the protagonist. However, putting an end to all of it, the makers locked the details and announced it along with a poster this weekend, sharing the news about Tiger Shroff playing the lead.

Nawaz turned 43 on May 19, shares his birthday with his two-year old son. "But I am never home to celebrate," Nawaz says a tad regretfully. "When my son was born in 2015 I was promoting Bajrangi Bhaijaan. This year I am at Cannes. But it's okay. I am working hard to ensure their future. Hopefully someday my children will be proud of me."
Nawaz's most memorable birthday was his 39th birthday. "I was in Cannes for the first time. Four of my films were being screened. I feel blessed. For 13 years I was given no room to grow as an actor. Kuch bhi milta ttha main karleta (I accepted what came my way). Gangs Of Wasseypur changed my life. Today I feel I’ve just begun my life. ”
Nawaz still can't believe he is a star. "Mujhe yakeen nahin hota! Once during the shooting of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Bhai and I got talking. He asked me if I find it hard to believe I’ve become a star. I said I did. He confessed he also found it hard to believe he was a star, that when people gawked at him he still thought they were looking at someone behind him. I get the same feeling.
If all goes well our Prime Minister will watch the new Sachin bio-pic Sachin: A Billion Dreams. Says a source close to the project, “It’s very rare for Modiji to want to watch any film. The producers Sachin: A Billion Dreams intend to release the film on a larger scale than any other film including Baahubali. Says a source in the know, “The film is currently being dubbed into six Indian languages which is more than any other dubbed film from any part of the world. Apparently the producers are planning to release the film in an unprecedented 7,000 theatres in India. Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion had opened in approximately 6,500 theatres. But before the release on May 26 is the premiere of the film on May 24 which according to an insider will be the “baap of all premieres.”

From the business world the two Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, never seen at the same function together may attend the Tendulkar premiere. And the cricketing fraternity, past and present, from Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Deo to Virat Kohli and Harbhajan Singh will attend the premiere of the biggest sports film this country has ever seen.

The history of Punjab is known to be culturally very rich and informative and the rulers have, in their own ways, set examples the world swears by. But how many of us actually know about this king, who was unaware of his own kingdom?
Maharaja Duleep Singh, also known as the Black Prince in the Sikh history, was the last heir of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the only son of Maharani Jindan. Since the very day he opened his eyes to the world, his life saw some of those stances that haunted him till his death.
When he was merely 10 months old, Duleep’s father Sher –E –Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh, left for his heavenly abode. Duleep was intended to be murdered when he was just 5 but destiny had something else in store for him and he survived. He saw his maternal uncle, Jawahar Singh, getting murdered right in front of his eyes. Duleep’s mother, Maharani Jindan, lived under the cloud of fear and, in due course of time, was taken to Sheikhoopur so that she was not aware of the game plan that was being strategized against her son and her kingdom by the greedy Britishers.
Not many know that the Kohinoor was surrendered to the Queen of England under a fraudulent proclamation. It was under this very proclamation that Maharaja Duleep was moved away from his motherland to Fatehgarh and was under the strict supervision of appointed British staff.
At the age of 15, Duleep became the first ever Royal to be converted to Christianity. But as his maturity age was fast approaching, he was taken to England. His inner struggle went on till he was 24 and that’s when he demanded to see his mother. After a series of events in his life, he lost her forever but this loss left him in a situation which hurt him to the core. This was because he couldn't fulfill her last wish.
A few more years passed and an array of events continued to make his life more dramatic. One fine day, when the Maharaja studied the Blue Book, he finally confronted the dark truth about the British fraud against him and his kingdom. His plea to get his rights back went unheard which is when he became a rebel.
A deeper insight into this tragic story awaits the audiences when The Black Prince releases in India and across the world on 21st July. The film will hit the screens in English, Hindi and Punjabi. This film will showcase the untold story of the last ruler of Punjab, Maharaja Duleep Singh and the heart-rending ups and downs that this last heir of the richest kingdom in India had to go through.
Not only have the actors got critical acclaim for their performances in The Black Prince at global film festivals, but as a debutante, Satinder Sartaaj is being looked upon very highly. Shabana Azmi will be seen donning the character of Duleep’s mother Maharani Jindan.
The director of the film Kavi Raz has very delicately balanced these chapters of Punjab’s history and has made sure to keep a perspective that is not bookish but is close to what actually happened to The Black Prince – Maharaja Duleep Singh.

The year 2016 saw the rise of Sonam Kapoor- the actor. Ever since the actress made her debut in the industry with Saawariya, she was always praised for being the fashion icon. With Ram Madhvani's Neerja last year, Sonam Kapoor broke pre-conceived notions about her and got the much needed critical acclaim. Adding another feature to her hat, Sonam Kapoor was honoured with special jury mention at the National Film Awards 2017.
Neerja was a biopic on a PanAm flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who saved several lives when her plane was hijacked by terrorists at Karachi airport in the year 1986. She was 23 years old and the youngest recipient of Ashok Chakra. The film went on to reach the 100-crore club. But, Neerja Bhanot's family claim they have not received the deserving profits that the film made.
Over a year since the release of Neerja, Neerja Bhanot's family have accused the producers of the movie – Bling Entertainment Solutions Ltd - of a breach of contract. The lawyers of the Bhanot family and the makers have reached a stage where the matter will be either taken to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. According to the sources, a notice of arbitration, the first step in a dispute of this nature, has been sent to the chief managing director of Bling Entertainment Solutions Ltd and co-producer of the film, Atul Kasbekar by Neerja Bhanot's brothers Akhil Bhanot and Aneesh Bhanot. The production company had entered into an agreement with now deceased mother of Neerja, Rama Bhanot, to produce a film on the late flight attendant.
It had been learned in its legal correspondence through the advocate, Anusha Nagarajan, the makers were supposed to share 10 percent of the net profit with the Bhanot family. Instead, they shared a very small fraction of the earnings which cited contractual obligations. The legal notice also brings into the limelight about the rights agreement which was made between the family and the production company. The agreement stated that the production, distribution and exploitation of the film would be primarily will be undertaken by Bling and entities affiliated to Bling. No part of the rights, the family claims, could have been assigned by Bling to any third party.
The production company has claimed the profit sharing came down to another contract which was made between them and Fox Star, which co-produced the movie. Not just that, apparently both the parties’ legal representatives came met at the office of former Union law minister and senior lawyer Kapil Sibal in October 2016 to solve the issue amicably. But, no result came out of it.
The Bhanot family and the producers are yet to respond to the legal battle.
Kangna Ranaut might be surrounded with a lot of controversies. But, that doesn't stop this ambitious actress who is all set to make her directorial debut next year. It doesn’t end here. The actress is all set to change her entire look for the film.
Kangna Ranaut is all set to play the role of an 80-year old woman in her directorial debut. The film titled Teju is a light-hearted story about a woman on the threshold of death but is still not ready to give up and leave the world. Speaking about the character, Kangna said that Teju is a warm, vibrant woman who is full of life and doesn't want to feel old at all.
Kangna Ranaut asserted that she grew up in the presence of her great grandparents. By the time she was a toddler, they were already their 80s. So, talking about the film, she said that it will be inspired by someone she knew and loved dearly. The film will be more about how a woman is living her life to the fullest and the essence of existence.
Hailing from Himachal Pradesh herself, Kangna Ranaut will give a glimpse into her own life before she joined the film industry through this film. She added that the film will showcase Himachal life and culture through her film which has not been explored in the films yet. She will be producing the film under her newly launched production company, Manikarnika Films, which is a joint collaboration with Shailesh Singh. Teju will roll out in December 2017 and is targeting a 2018-end release.
It's a rollercoaster of drama in the film industry right now. It has been three days since Simran writer Apurva Asrani called out Kangna Ranaut and filmmaker Hansal Mehta over diluting his writing credit and giving a co-writer credit to Kangna in the film.
In case you haven’t followed it, Simran writer Apurva Asrani wrote a very detailed post accusing Kangna Ranaut of arm-twisting her way into getting a co-writer credit in the film. Not only that, he also called out director Hansal Mehta and called him spineless. While this was unfolding, in a recent twist, Apurva Asrani himself was accused of stealing the writing credit from another writer named Sameer Gautam for the film Shahid. In an elaborate post, Sameer claimed that Apurva made it a point to get a screenwriter credit and Hansal Mehta was in dilemma about it as Apurva was just the editor on the film.
Hansal Mehta has finally responded to all the allegations made by Apurva Asrani. In a post, Hansal finally opened up about the Simran row and said that he is not bothered by someone who is desperate to seek attention and gain sympathy.
Here's what he wrote:
"Yes, I am guilty. Guilty of crediting individuals who contribute to making my films very special to many of us. Yes, I will be guilty. Not once more. But a thousand times over. Call me names, as many names as you want. But in your desperation to seek attention and gain sympathy do not try to harm my film. My spine is whatever it is, weak or strong, it is only for my film and nothing else. If I chose not to speak it is for my film. And when I do speak it will only be in the service of my film, not driven by any blackmail or any noise on social media where dignity is perceived as weakness and conversation is replaced by the allegation. I don't owe anybody an explanation exception those colleagues who work with love, respect and are genuine stakeholders in our efforts to make films. And some free advice to those who jump the gun just to be relevant- go get a life. Do some work what you can genuinely own. Endure the pain that comes with making an entire film and make that journey on your own. Then, go give yourself all the credits in the world."
Apurva Asrani responded on Hansal Mehta's post saying, “If only he mentioned ‘the truth’ as many times as he has mentioned ‘MY film’, he wouldn’t have found himself in this degrading situation.”
While he is working on Golmaal Again, Arshad Warsi's latest parallel gig is very interesting. The actor has been roped in to dub for Hindi version of upcoming Hollywood fantasy film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge.
Arshad Warsi himself confirmed the news on saying that he is the voice for Hollywood actor Johnny Depp's popular character Captain Jack Sparrow. Posing in front of the film's poster, he captioned it as, "So yes, I am the voice for Jack Sparrow in #piratesofthecaribbean5 watch it, you'll love it."
Speaking about the dubbing experience, Arshad Warsi said that he has always been very fond of this character. He really likes Jack Sparrow. The moment he had watched the film Pirates of the Caribbean, he was a fan of the character. It was a major challenge to do as it was not easy to dub Johnny Depp. It was a challenge to do the scenes where Jack Sparrow was drunk but he had a lot of fun.
Johnny Depp is returning with the fifth installment of the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. It will be released in India on May 26. Meanwhile, Arshad Warsi is busy filming Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Again. It is set for Diwali 2017 release.
Ketan Mehta, the creator of monumental epics on such creatures of history as Mangal Pandey, Sardar Patel and Dashrath Manjhi, was all set to start his career’s most ambitious bio-pic.
No one had attempted a film on the Rani Laxmibai aka Jhansi Ki Rani, the warrior queen, who battled for her selfhood and country with a baby tied to her back. Ketan was up for the challenge. He had pencilled in Kangna Ranaut for the title role in Rani Of Jhansi: The Warrior Queen. Then, it all fell apart.
Ketan is still trying to recover from the blow that Kangna dealt with his most ambitious dream. “Ten years of my research information data and creative inputs on the project. I had shared it all with her. How was I to know it would all be vandalized so mercilessly? What she did was to hijack ten years of my hard work,” says Ketan remarkably cool, as he relives the nightmare.
Kangna Ranaut translocated the entire project to producer Kamal Jain and director Krish without Ketan Mehta’s knowledge or consent. “In February, I was in hospital for a minor surgery. When I came out, I got to know of Kangna’s doing through the media. No, she did not inform me that she was not doing my film. As far I was concerned, we were fully into the pre-production just weeks away from going on the floors, when she did this,” says Ketan softly, still unable to fully process the enormity of the betrayal.
“On how many levels is this unethical? It is ten years of my hard work and research which I shared with her without hesitation as one would with an ally in a creative partnership. She just decided that she wanted to take my project to another producer Kamal Jain, thereby, effectually sabotaging all my plans.”
Ketan says he already had a co-producer on board. “Rani Of Jhansi was planned as a English-Hindi bilingual with Gurinder Chadha as the British producer. It was going to be the first full-fledged Indo-UK co-production. Where when and how did Kamal Jain (who now produces the film) come into the picture? I’ve no clue. Only Kangna can answer that question.”
Ketan can only wonder at the levels of unscrupulousness revealed in the relocation of his project to an unauthorized source. “It is a really lowdown thing to do. I had to take legal recourse not because I wanted to stir up some action, but, because it is important for me to stand up now when so much of my reputation is at stake. She cannot do this. I don’t know what level of ambition impels her to this level of unprofessionalism. But, if I kept quiet about it, I’d be encouraging an unsavoury practice.”
The brilliant filmmaker, known the world over for his masterly portrayal of oppression and women’s empowerment in Mirch Masala and Maya Memsaab, now faces the biggest challenge of his career.
“I’ve to prove to myself and to the audience that such a setback won’t stop me from making my film. I will make Rani Of Jhansi. Maybe this incident was meant as a warning that I was perhaps not going about it the right way. Now, it’s time to gather all my inner strength and make my film. I can’t allow Kangna to take away ten years of my life,” says the determined director.

One could just drop in and say hello, sit down and chat with her. He said that she was a very warm and welcoming person. She was the one with whom one never felt a social barrier. She was a very good looking person and a very gracious human being.
Mohnish Behl isn't new to the industry. He had seen the film industry since his childhood days as he was the son of well-known actress, Nutan. He had lost his mother at a young age. Talking about his bond with Reema Lagoo, he said that he has lost a special friend. He had not met her in recent times as he wasn't working so much. He realized that no one can ever meet someone like her again.
With a heavy heart, Mohnish further said that if Sooraj Barjatya made a film, and decided to cast all of old Rajshree folks again, they know that she won't be there and that’s a sad thought. Talking about her work, he said that she played Sanjay Dutt and his mother and Shivaji Satham was our father in Vaastav. And that’s just another aspect to an actor who had survived in the industry for so long as she was perfect at her craft. He said that she has left a void personally, and professionally.
Reminiscing about his on-screen mother Reema Lagoo, he recollected about the time she used to live in a building in Versova, and his family had a flat in the adjoining building in the same complex. He had lived all his life in South Mumbai, but he used this Versova flat when he had an early morning shift or overnight shoot. So, he used to tell his family to come across the city and stay there for a couple of days during the busy shooting schedule. And every time he woke up in the morning, he would see his wife waving out at Reemaji across the building from the balcony, and they used to have a conversation in sign language. They’ve known each other independent from his relation with her. Mohnish revealed that his wife had worked with Reemaji in Vansh and Vaastav also. These are the little things that filled up their mornings there with joy.
Lastly, Mohnish Behl added that now they are quite certain that when they go there, they will miss seeing her standing on her balcony and waving at his wife. He said that he has lost a lot of people in his life and one of them is Reemaji.

It seems like controversies won't leave Kangna Ranaut’s side anytime soon. The Kangna Ranaut-Apurva Asrani- Hansal Mehta row over the proper writing credits for Simran has been the talk of the nation over the past couple of weeks now. It is the kind of controversy that has resulted in the end of the partnership between director Hansal Mehta and writer Apurva Asrani.
In case you haven't followed it, Simran writer Apurva Asrani wrote a very detailed post accusing Kangna of twisting her way into getting a co-writer credit in the film. Not only that, he also called out director Hansal Mehta to show some spine and stand up for what is right. While this was unfolding, in a recent twist, Apurva Asrani himself was accused of stealing the writing credit from another writer named Sameer Gautam during the film Shahid. In an elaborate post, Sameer claimed that Apurva made it a point to get a screenwriter credit and Hansal Mehta was in dilemma about it as Apurva was just the editor on the film.
Now, in a blasting interview with Huffingpost India, Kangna Ranaut has hit back at Apurva Asrani. In an elaborate interview, she said that she and Hansal Mehta weren't happy with Apurva Asrani's script and had to rework on it while on the sets in the US.
Talking about current scenario and how the film came about, Kangna Ranaut said that when she was shooting for Tanu Weds Manu Returns in Gurgaon in December, Hansal Mehta had approached her with a 15 page draft of Sarbajit. However, since she didn’t like it much she refused the same, while Mehta reassuring her that he would improve on it and that they would jointly work on the same. But the project never flew and someone else made it. Continuing to talk about the idea behind it the actress added that though the film didn’t take off the idea always was to collaborate with Hansal on a project. Later adding about her and Hansal’s meetings in the US, Kangna went on to further add that it was there that Hansal mentioned a BBC documentary on a woman who took to a life of crime. Stating that it was Mehta who wanted to develop it with her in the lead, to which Kangna Ranaut agreed. However, at that point of time Apurva was nowhere in the picture, commented Kangna, while elaborating that since Mehta usually collaborates with his editor, Apurva Asrani, the latter came into the picture.
Kangna Ranaut also said that they had to rework on the project as Apurva Asrani had written a dark thriller that he had submitted at Film Writers Association. Commenting on the same she added that Apurva's story was a dark thriller about a drug-addict who goes into a life of crime with a flavour of Wolf of Wall Street and share market jargon thrown in. But it was she who made it clear that since the budget was Rs. 30 crores, they would need to make at least 60 cr at the box office, to break-even, and that with the kind of script they had, it wouldn't be possible. Post this discussion Kangna Ranaut states that it was Hansal Mehta’s idea that she talk to Apurva and get the script tweaked to make it more accessible. However, it was only after she started collaborating with Apurva, that realised he isn't a writer who matches expectations, and that he hadn't done any of the previous work that he claimed.
Kangna claims that she was the one to add the divorcee angle, Gujarati angle, love story and a housekeeper angle to the story which was never mentioned in Asrani's draft. She even asked Hansal Mehta to hire a team of writers as Asrani couldn't deliver what they wanted to show on screen. She did agree that he had written 9 drafts but they were so many of them which did not live up their vision of what they had from the film.
Talking about Apurva Asrani's claims that she had loved the script, Kangna further hit back saying, that if the said script was so good, why would she have asked for rewrites? While she does admit that there were sessions, Kangna reiterates that those were mostly to expressing her disappointment with the writing. If that wasn’t enough, Kangna Ranaut also added that the story of a divorced woman in Simran, was entirely introduced by her. On the other hand, Apurva has claimed that he wasn't informed at all about the rewrites that went down while Hansal and Kangna were filming the US. She also informed that during the filming of Simran she had gotten in a car accident. This was the reason she had taken help from her diction expert who would write dialogues on set while she dictated him.
Kangna also revealed that they had a sit down with Apurva Asrani, the producer of Simran Shailesh R Singh, Hansal Mehta and herself to make the credits legal. Talking about this Kangna relives the times saying that Apurva harassed them right through the process. It was also revealed that many times Kangna had said no to a film because the makers would not like that she would give inputs. She was offered Sultan but producer Aditya Chopra wasn't too keen about Kangna's involvement and hence they had to let her go of the film.
After the recent revelation about writer’s drama with Shahid, Kangna also claimed that it wasn't the first time Apurva wanted to encash on someone else's credit. Concluding the interview, Kangna added that after seeing the changes that were made, Apurva wanted to encash on that by putting his name there, like he had been doing in the past.
