From Lagaan to Jodhaa Akbar to Mohenjo Daro, Ashutosh Gowariker has always been in awe of period dramas. While he has time and again excelled in this genre, his recent film failed to hit the hit the marquee but that hasn’t deterred the filmmaker’s spirit. He wants to explore his love for period dramas a little more and reportedly is planning on making yet another film in the same genre.
Although not a lot is known about the film, we hear that Ashutosh Gowariker is reportedly working on a film based on a true incident that is set at the backdrop of World War II. While his previous film Mohenjo Daro was a fictional story based in 2016 BC, this one will be tracing the noble deed by a certain king.
According to recent reports, Ashutosh is planning to revive the story of a forgotten hero, a Maharaja who had provided shelter to over 640 Polish children by setting up a separate home for them during World War II. They were Polish refugee orphans who were provided a safety home at the Jamnagar palace by this king.
From what we hear, Ashutosh has not only approached the royal family for the rights of the film but has even received approval from them. In fact, it is being said that he has even received help from five of the Polish survivors who are currently residing in Poland.
As for casting, since the film is in its initial stages, all these details are yet to be finalized.
Remo D’Souza had earlier announced a film with Salman Khan in the lead and Jacqueline Fernandez as the leading lady. But now that the film has been put on hold after the announcement of Race 3, we hear that the duo is collaborating once again for a reality show. The duo will reunite as judges for a dance based reality show after they teamed up for the film A Flying Jatt last year.
Readers may be aware that Jacqueline Fernandez has already tried her stint as a judge in the celebrity dance based show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa where she shared the panel with Karan Johar and Ganesh Hegde. While the show has also seen Remo D’Souza as one of its judges in its previous seasons, the two of them are now collaborating for a show that is quite different from this celebrity dance show. Their forthcoming show titled ‘Champion of the Champions’ will see winners of other dance reality shows competing with their respective counterparts from the same show who failed to make it to the winner list by a close mark.
As for the new show, reportedly, it is slated to go on air from September onwards after Remo wraps up the ongoing reality show Dance Plus 3. However the rest of the details on the contestants are yet to be revealed.
On the film front, Jacqueline Fernandez is now gearing up for a release next week, A Gentleman - Sundar, Susheel, Risky opposite Sidharth Malhotra and another release next month, Judwaa 2 starring Varun Dhawan and Taapsee Pannu. Besides the two, the actress has also been signed opposite Sushant Singh Rajput in Drive.
With Toilet – Ek Prem Katha breaking the dull phase at the box-office, we hear that the filmmaker has already moved on to the next. And reportedly, Shahid Kapoor has been roped in as the leading man for this Shree Narayan Singh directorial.
Readers may be aware that Shahid Kapoor is busy with the much talked about Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus Padmavati. However, we hear soon after completing it, he will start with this film. Written by Rustom writer Vipul K Rawal, the film is said to be produced by KriArj Entertainment. While reports claim that the title is yet to be finalized, KriArj Entertainment’s Prernaa Arora maintained that the working title as of now is Roshni.
She further went on to add that the film will be a social entertainer, something similar to the genre of Toilet and also stated that it will be a big film. However, she refused to discuss the details of the cast as she mentioned that they are still in talks with everyone and are yet to finalize the same.
On the other hand, Shahid Kapoor recently rang in the first birthday of his daughter Misha, along with his wife Mira Rajput as the family set out for a short trip before the actor dives into work. As for his film Padmavati, it is said to release in November this year.
By now we all know that Saif Ali Khan will soon be seen in the film Kaalakaandi which marks the directorial debut of Delhi Belly writer, Akshat Verma. In fact the makers of the film had recently come out with a teaser that had created a strong buzz online. But now we hear that though it was announced that the film would hit screens on September 8, the makers have decided to postpone its release.
Apparently, Kaalakaandi will now not hit screens on September 8, with the makers of the film citing that they want to have sufficient time to complete the censor process as the CBFC has suggested cuts. Though the postponement has been confirmed, a new date is yet to be announced.
As for the film, Kaalakaandi is produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Ashi Dua Sara of Flying Unicorn, the film stars Saif Ali Khan along with the eclectic ensemble of Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raz, Kunal Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Isha Talwar, Shenaz Treasury, Shivam Patil, Amyra Dastur and Neil Bhoopalam in a special appearance.
So it’s pukka now. Not Prabhas’s good friend and Baahubali co-star Anushka Shetty, but it’s Shraddha Kapoor who will be standing neck-to-neck fist-to-fist with Prabhas in his Tamil-Hinid bi-lingual Saaho.
Shraddha will have to quickly lose all the kilos she had gained to play the weighty gangster in Apoorva Lakhia’s Haseena Parkar. In fact the original choice Anushka Shetty couldn’t eventually do Saaho as Anushka was unable to shed the kilos in time for the shooting.
“But that should not be any problem for Shraddha,” says a source from the Saaho team. “She is more than capable of getting back into her original shape, plus some more. She needs a more toned physique to play Prabhas’s fighting-fit comrade on screen.”
Interestingly Shraddha had said no to Saaho when she quoted a staggering fee to join in. But now after a string of flops behind her, Shraddha can see reason and will cut down her price to accommodate the Telugu film’s budget.
“Shraddha always liked the script of Saaho. But earlier she couldn’t do the film as she quoted a price the Telugu producers could not afford. This time after they approached her when Anushka Shetty had to exit, Shraddha quoted a more reasonable price. And she’s on,” says the source.
Arjun Rampal will be the star attraction at the Norway Bollywood Festival this year where his film Daddy will be the closing film on September 14. Producer Rahul Mittra and Raju Chadha, the presenter of Daddy will also be present. Daddy is based on the life and times of gangster turned politician Arun Gawli.
Bollywood Norway Festival will also be attended by Madhur Bhandarkar and Gulshan Grover with a musical concert by Jasbir Jassi and Jaspinder Narula. Several acclaimed films like Konkona Sen Sharma's 'A Death In The Gunj', Madhur's 'Indu Sarkar', 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' and many others will be showcased at the festival from September 8-14. The festival will be attended by thousands of Indians and Scanidavians and is an attempt at spreading Indian movies and culture. In the past, Salman Khan, Vidya Balan, Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman and many others have attended this prestigious festival.
With films like Lucknow Central and Qaidi Band bringing forth the concept of reforming jail inmates with the medium of music, let us tell you that these films are inspired by real life stories. Tihar jail, which is considered to be the biggest jails in India, started off the concept of giving its inmates an opportunity to showcase their talent and it has now become a reality show.
In 2012, Tihar jail authorities launched the Tihar idols to encourage inmates who are good singers to bring their talent to the forefront and this reality show will make its TV debut next month. In fact, the said show has been shot over a period of three to four years. From Sonu Nigam to Anuradha Padwal to Sudha Chandran many have been the judges of these shows within the jail which involves music and dance.
What started off as a music therapy for inmates by the then DG of Tihar jail, Neeraj Kumar, has now become a huge thing with a music studio being established within the jail premises wherein the inmates practice music. This has been started in association with a music company. On the other hand, describing it as a positive experience was Sarangi maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri who was one of the first music teachers in Tihar jail. He has taught music to many inmates including Manu Sharma, who was involved in the Jessica Lall murder case, as he learnt violin.
As for the program, it has been designed in the form of Indian Idol, wherein 500 inmates will be auditioned out of which 16 finalists are selected in 16 finalists [eight for singing and eight for dancing] to compete in the finale. The winners further are given an opportunity to release an album and a similar album was released in the year in 2012.
On the other hand, the network that will air the reality show is yet to be finalized.
With a bunch of newbies being launched by big banners, Aadar Jain, Ranbir Kapoor's cousin, is all set to make his Bollywood debut opposite another debutante Anya Singh in Yash Raj Films' upcoming film Qaidi Band. The film, although, is giving a platform to newbies but it also has an uncanny resemblance to Farhan Akhtar's forthcoming film, Lucknow Central.
Both the trailers show the lives of prisoners who form a musical band and plan to escape the prison. Speaking about the similarities, Aadar Jain clarified saying although the two films look similar but are not. He said that when he was filming the movie, he had no clue that there was another film being made on the same films. When he eventually saw the trailer of Lucknow Central, he did notice that the similarities were uncanny when it came to musical band and jail break. He said that even if the plot looks the same, no two films can be same.
Written and directed by Habib Faisal, Qaidi Band is scheduled to release on August 25. Lucknow Central, on the other hand, stars Farhan Akhtar in the lead. Directed by Ranjit Tiwari, the film is scheduled to release on September 15, 2017.
Amidst the constant debate on nepotism and outsiders receiving their big break in Bollywood, here’s a new chance for aspiring filmmakers. For the upcoming MTV reality show, Fameistan, Mohit Suri is turning judge for the show as he will mentor four selected participants for their short films.
While the ‘call for entry’ promo too will feature Mohit Suri as the face of the show, we hear that he is the first in the series of Bollywood directors who came forward to guide the budding talent. In fact, he will be the one also picking the winner after viewing their shorts. Encouraging these youngsters and stating that they shouldn’t stifle their voices, Mohit expressed his happiness of being associated with the show.
Also showing gratitude towards his mentor Mahesh Bhatt who presented him with the opportunity of directing his debut film Zeher in 2005, Mohit Suri recalled his beginner days and how he had taken over the film which was supposed to be someone else’s. Reminiscing his mentor’s words, the Aashiqui 2 filmmaker revealed how Mahesh had encouraged him to do what he had done for Mohit, the director believes this show will provide him with a platform to thank Mr. Bhatt.
On the film front, while he last directed Half Girlfriend based on the Chetan Bhagat novel by the same name, Mohit Suri will now gearing up for a film with Farhan Akhtar in the leading role of a boxer. While there are speculations about the actor reuniting with his Rock On co-star Shraddha Kapoor for the same, there are no updates on that front.
Kriti Kharbanda, who made her debut with the Bhatt film Raaz Reboot, is now all set to share screen space with the iconic veteran star Dharmendra. The actress has been roped in for the Deols starrer comic caper Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, the third instalment in the franchise.
Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se, which went on floor recently, marks the Bollywood directorial debut of Punjabi writer Navaniat Singh. Talking about having Kriti Kharbanda on board, we hear that the actress aced the audition and the makers were more than happy to have a fresh face on board. In fact Kriti, who will return to India after wrapping up with work commitments in Colombo, will start shooting for a romantic number and a full blown party track for the film.
While Kriti Kharbanda is associated with the franchise for the first time, earlier, the other instalments featured actresses like Kulraj Randhawa, Neha Sharma as the leading ladies. However, Dharmendra and his actor sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol continue to be a part of these comedy films.
Bobby Deol and Dharmendra have already started shooting for the film and even shared pictures from the sets of the film. However, the duo has been missing their third partner in crime, Sunny Deol aka Pagla who will soon join them on the sets.
Besides this film, Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol will be coming together in Shreyas Talpade’s directorial Poshter Boyz.
The Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Babumoshai Bandookbaaz faced the wrath of the censors for its bold content and earlier this month, we had also reported that the producer of the film Kiran Shroff had to face humiliating comments from a certain CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) member. Followed by these, the makers of the film decided to approach FCAT (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal), to receive certification for their film.
Now, reports have it that FCAT has asked the makers of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz to make 7 to 8 voluntary cuts instead of the 48 cuts that were recommended by the CBFC and has only retained the ‘A’ certification. Kushan Nandy, who is happy with the current decision, asserted that as per schedule, the film will release in its original full-blown version. The filmmaker also mentioned that FCAT members found the entire issues surrounding the cuts really funny and decided to go ahead with the decision.
Further Kushan Nandy went on to accuse former chief Pahlaj Nihalani, who recently got fired from CBFC, for allegedly sabotaging his film and removing his personal vendetta on them. Kushan revealed that although FCAT had passed this recommendation for the film quite some time ago, Pahlaj had gone on to send a letter to them stating that the makers of the film showed two different versions to the CBFC and FCAT. In fact, Nandy also added that Pahlaj had bared the Tribunal from recommending voluntary cuts. But Kushan also showcased technical proof that these claims were false.
Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, that also stars Bidita Bag as the leading lady, is slated to release on August 25.
Currently he rules the roost in Indian cinema, courtesy the mega blockbuster Baahubali 2 that became a talk of the nation owing to its immense success. Prabhas is now gearing up for yet another multi-lingual with Saaho and after many names of the actresses being tossed around for the role of the leading lady, it is Bollywood actress Shraddha Kapoor who has been finalised for the role.
In fact, there were earlier speculations about South actress Anushka Shetty playing the leading lady but it seems the deal didn’t work through and now, Shraddha Kapoor has come on board for the same. The producer of the film reportedly revealed that he is quite excited to kick start the film with Shraddha and that it is very special since it is Prabhas’ first film in Hindi.
Besides the two of them, Neil Nitin Mukesh plays the antagonist in this action packed drama which is said to feature many high octane stunts that will be choreographed by international stunt co-ordinators. The film, produced by Pramod of UV Creations and directed by Sujeeth, will be releasing in three languages namely Hindi, Tamil and Telugu simultaneously. In fact, prep for the film has already started with a massive set being erected at the iconic Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, India.
From what we hear, Saaho is slated to go on floor from mid-August and will also be shot extensively in abroad locations like Romania and Abu Dhabi. With lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya and music by Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy, the other technical aspects like, production design is taken care of by Sabu Cyril whereas the DoP [Director of Photography] is Madhie.
It was a busy Grand-Finale week for Pahlaj Nihalani when as many as 15 Hindi (and that includes a few dubbed Hollywood films) were provided censor certificates before he was asked to leave on Friday evening.
The films in the coming weeks that have been provided with a certificate are Krishna DK and Raj Nidimoru’s espionage thriller A Gentleman, Gurinder Chadha’s epic Partition tale Partition 1947, the highly-anticipated Ryan Reynolds actioner The Hitman’s Bodguard, a 3-D version of Arnold Schawrzenegger’s Terminator 2, Amole Gupte’s eagerly awaited film about a child detective Sniff ….
Says the exhausted former CBFC chairperson, “The list of films to be cleared for August 18 and August 25 was endless. Never before had we at the CBFC been given so many films to view all at once. In fact Ashwini Iyer Tiwari’s Bareilly Ki Barfi came to us on Thursday and we viewed the film and provided an all-clear U certificate to the film on Friday.”
Nihalani had a very special reason for rushing through the certification of Bareilli Ki Barfi. “This is a film co-produced by Renu Chopra, the wife of the late filmmaker Ravi Chopra. It is her first attempt at turning an independent producer. I didn’t want her film to suffer any delay.”
Nihalani says he was surprised to read the same filmmakers whose films he had cleared on priority, rejoicing his ouster. “I can understand Anurag Kashyap feeling happy about my departure from the CBFC. He has been openly campaigning against my tenure as the CBFC chairperson. There is no hidden agenda in his malice. It’s all out in the open. I believe he has been singing songs after my exit from the CBFC. Glad to bring happiness in his life. But some of the others ‘welcoming the change’ have been telling me on my face that they had no problem with me at the CBFC. And now they say they’re happy to see me go? Wah kya baat hai.”
Without taking any names, Mr Nihalani mentions a recent film in which he had gone out of his way to accommodate the toilet humour. “There were derogatory references to caste and community which I couldn’t allow. The next thing I heard is that the film’s hero had complained to the I & B ministry about my high-handedness. God bless him and all the others who are celebrating my departure.”
The worst jibe post-ouster was on Arnab Goswami’s show where the abrasive anchor openly ridiculed Mr Nihalani.
“I think I replied sufficiently to his taunts. Arnab kept insisting I should say the word ‘intercourse’ out load. Why should I do what he or anyone else asks me to do? By saying ‘intercourse’ loudly one becomes a liberal? And for Arnab’s information, I had no problem with the word. ‘Intercourse’ has been allowed in the new Bengali film Dhanonjoy. No, I am not a prude. But I am pragmatic. I know Shah Rukh Khan’s fans are children, and parents wouldn’t have liked him talking about intercourse in Jab Harry Met Sejal. Let me make one thing clear. The CBFC guidelines do not stipulate that films should not be cut. Yet I was pressurized from the top to not cut, only certify. The CBFC is a confused organization. We need progressive guidelines. Without them we are stuck in a time-warp.”
Filmmaker Kushan Nandy whose Babumoshai Bandookbaaz was lately trapped in a censorial crisis admits that his team could have a hand in Nihalani’s departure as the chairperson of the CBFC.
“We had complained formally to the I &B ministry about the high-handed behaviour of the CBFC during our screening. One of the board members had even misbehaved with my producer Kiran Shroff and the CBFC had not taken any step against the offending board member. All this must have not gone down well with the I & B Ministry,” says Kushan.
Kushan however refuses to put the blame for his film’s censorial woes on Pahlaj Nihalani’s shoulders. “I don’t think Mr Nihalani was the problem. It is the outdated guidelines followed by the CBFC that are to blame. Until those change nothing can happen. Shyam Benegal’s committee submitted the proposals for a reform in the CBFC guidelines. Why haven’t those proposals been implemented as yet?”
On Monday it was Prasoon Joshi’s first day as the new chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Unfortunately Prasoon was under the weather and could not attend office, thereby precipitating a situation of utter pandemonium at the CBFC office in Mumbai.
Reports a CBFC source, “On Friday before Pahlaj Nihalani left his office he had certified many films including Ashwini Iyer Tiwari’s Bareilly Ki Barfi and the Sidharth Malhotra-Jacqueline Fernandez thriller A Gentleman scheduled to be released on the two Fridays to come one after the other. These producers were to collect their censor certificates on Monday as per the rules. When Prasoon Joshi didn’t turn up at the CBFC office on Monday, all hell broke loose since there was no chairperson to organize the smooth delivery of the certificates.”
In a panic the producers of Bareilly Ki Barfi whose release is this Friday contacted Pahlaj Nihalani. Says Nihalani, “I had no choice but to step in help them out. Otherwise they wouldn’t have got the certificate. Bareilly Ki Barfi would have definitely missed its release this Friday.”
Prasoon Joshi is expected to start attending office as the new CBFC chairperson from Friday.
The industry is going through a really bad time. Big films are expected to do at least decent if not blockbuster business. But this year, things haven’t gone as per expectations. Salman Khan’s Eid release Tubelight flopped due to which distributors and exhibitors made huge losses. Three weeks after Tubelight, a similar scenario arose with Ranbir Kapoor’s long-in-the-making-film Jagga Jasoos which also emerged as a disaster.
And now Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal too has bombed at the ticket window. The biggest loss maker out here is NH Studioz. It had acquired the all India rights of Tubelight for Rs. 132 crores and Jab Harry Met Sejal for Rs. 80 crores. In fact, post the Tubelight debacle, no distributor was willing to shell out fancy prices for Jab Harry Met Sejal. Narendra Hirawat of NH Studioz had to shockingly undersell the territorial rights of Jab Harry Met Sejal, thereby making a loss for himself. The performance of Jab Harry Met Sejal at the box office has been so disastrous that even the distributors who bought the rights of the film at lower prices lost a big chunk of their investment.
Apparently, they have sent an SOS message to Shah Rukh Khan and asked him to follow Salman Khan’s steps. They have asked for a refund for the backbreaking losses since Shah Rukh Khan had made good profits from the pre-sale of All India Rights to NH Studioz, satellite, music and digital rights.
In the past, Shah Rukh Khan had compensated distributors of his 2015 film Dilwale when they had incurred losses. Readers may recall that Shah Rukh had refunded close to Rs. 25 crores to cover up 50% loss to distributors of Dilwale.
In fact back in 2001 and 2005, Shah Rukh Khan had refunded the individual distributors of his films Asoka (Eros) and Paheli (UTV), after both films underperformed at the box office. As a direct result of Asoka underperforming at the box office, Shah Rukh’s subsequent release Chalte Chalte was sold for a much lower price. On similar lines after the failure of Paheli, distributors of Shah Rukh’s next venture Om Shanti Om were given first right of refusal to acquire the film.
Though the superstar is not bound by any agreement to refund monies, the distributors are praying that he will follow Salman Khan’s footsteps and bail the industry from the mammoth losses.
After making her solo singing debut with the release of her album, Gopala Ko Samarpan, on August 13, now Hema Malini is gearing up for yet another new collaboration. However, this time around too, the yesteryear diva is not doing it for Bollywood but aims at an amalgamation of two different cultures and worlds in the form of dance.
Hema Malini will be joining hands with Georgia’s popular ballet dance group Sukhishvilli and the dance festival titled Synergy will be hosted in association with Jaya Smriti that is named after Hema’s mother Jaya Chakravarthy. Reportedly, the dance performances will see blend of Georgian dance forms along with popular Indian dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Pung Cholom.
Talking about this, Hema Malini aims that the festival will grow every year with different collaborations with different countries. The actress wishes to not just safeguard our culture but also spread it across the world. She also further explained that the classical and folk dance on India that can be differentiated based on Natyashastra [science of dance] and Abhinaya Darpana [mirror of gestures] and the rich Georgian culture will bring about a synergy in cultures.
On the other hand, Sukhishvilli’s Georgian dancer Nino Sukhishvilli expressed the excitement of returning to India after the troupe performed in 1952. The festival will be held across major cities in India that includes Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.
As on the personal front, Hema Malini is eagerly awaiting good news from her daughter Esha Deol who is expecting her first child later this year.
Besides Poshter Boyz, Bobby Deol is collaborating with his actor-brother and actor-father for Yamla Pagla Deewana. And now we hear that the actor is gearing up for another film – a thriller titled Good Friday.
Filmmaker Mukul Abhayankar has been reportedly approached to direct the film. From what we hear, the film has been in the planning stage for quite some time and it is now that it is finally set to roll. As for the leading cast, apart from Bobby Deol who will play the male lead, it is being said that the film will have two leading ladies and an antagonist but the details of all these actors who will essay the roles are yet to be finalized.
While Bobby Deol has already kick started the promotions of Poshter Boyz with director of the film Shreyas Talpade and his brother Sunny Deol, it has been learnt that Good Friday will go on floor in September. Apparently, the shoot schedule for the film will continue for the next two months.
Pahlaj Nihalani was removed from the post of Censor Board chairman on Friday August 11 which led to joy among the industry members. That Prasoon Joshi, considered to be progressive and sensible, was made the chairman added to the happiness. But a section of industry remained sceptical. The scepticism increased after a recent interview of Prasoon Joshi.
In this interview, Prasoon Joshi said that he won’t advocate for complete freedom of expression. He emphasized that he’ll look at the intent of the filmmaker behind the attention-grabbing content. If the content is there for a reason, then he’ll allow it and if it’s added for cheap publicity, then he’ll censor it. He also added that even the famous Michelangelo had to function as per the rules of the then society. This made it clear that adult films would still be censored. The demand of a lot filmmakers however has been that if a film is certified adult, then no cuts should be made.
Producer Mukesh Bhatt, who has had several bad experiences with the Censor Board, slammed Prasoon Joshi for these remarks. He blamed him for talking in government’s language and wondered what is about the chair of the Censor Board chief that changes people, even those from the film industry. He questioned Prasoon Joshi that on one hand, the adult is mature enough to vote a government to power but on the other hand, how can he claim that adult is not mature enough to watch an adult-themed film. Mukesh Bhatt also openly said that Prasoon Joshi got a chance to head the Censor Board because he worked on the election campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It remains to be seen if Prasoon Joshi turns out to be a sensible Censor chairman or does he continue with ‘sanskaari’ ways of erstwhile chief Pahlaj Nihalani. Watch this space.
Sunidhi Chauhan, who has impressed everyone with her singing skills since almost two decades, is celebrating her birthday today. However, it’s a double celebration for the singer. Reports suggest that Sunidhi Chauhan is pregnant. This would be her first child with husband Hitesh Sonik, who is a music composer and music producer and whom she married five years ago, on April 15, 2012.
Sunidhi Chauhan had earlier married director choreographer Bobby Khan in 2002. She was just 18 at that time and within a year, she separated from Bobby Khan. Hitesh Sonik had revealed that he met her when she won the reality show, ‘Meri Awaz Suno’. Later they became friends and over the year, it grew into love. Hitesh Sonik made it clear that he loves her more for the person that she is rather than her singing, which is just a part of her personality. He also revealed that Sunidhi Chauhan has blended well into his family and that his folks dote on her. He too is very comfortable with her family.
Sunidhi Chauhan today posted a video on Twitter where she thanked everyone who wished her on her birthday. She also revealed that she’ll speak to her fans today live. It remains to be seen if she announces about her pregnancy in this live video.
Bollywood Hungama sends out its heartfelt wishes for the soon to be parents.
Actress Neha Dhupia, who was promoting her podcast series, met with a horrible car accident on Saturday, August 12 en route to the Chandigarh airport. It seems like Neha Dhupia is recovering and shared an update post her harrowing accident.
Neha Dhupia thanked everyone for sending her wishes. Her heartfelt note read, “Yes the news is correct. I was recently in a 3 car collision while on the way to work. The accident was horrible and shook me a lot. Fortunately, I came out with minor injuries on my neck and back that are healing well. While it was a harrowing experience that I’d never wish on anyone… because of it I got such an outpouring of love and prayers which are priceless to me. Thank you for all your wishes and blessings! A car crash can’t stop me from being myself but it has made me appreciate every little thing even more than before. So yes, I’m well and safe. And happy to take selfies with everyone who wants one.”
According to several reports, a car from behind had rammed into Neha Dhupia's car leaving her with a shoulder injury. The back of the car was broken but Neha Dhupia is doing fine. Also, it was reported that the crowd was insensitive towards her and took selfies instead of helping her out.
Ajay Devgn, who is busy shooting for Golmaal Again, has always tried to do varied roles. Now, it has been learned that Ajay Devgn will be playing the role of a tough Income Tax Officer from Uttar Pradesh in his upcoming film Raid.
Raid will be set in the 1980s Uttar Pradesh and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta. The film's story will be based on a real-life incident revolving around the most popular Income Tax raids in the country. Echoing a similar though Abhishek Pathak further went on to add, "As producers, we are always on the lookout for exciting material and it all starts there and with Raid it is a continuation of our thought-process of backing films with content like Special 26 and Drishyam which we produced and Rustom which we acquired for all India distribution. We are looking forward to our association with Raj Kumar Gupta on this film."
Presented by Gulshan Kumar Raid will be a T-Series and Panorama Studios production, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak. Slated to commence shooting in September 2017 Raid is being readied for release on April 20, 2018.

Now that the film is nearing completion, Salman Khan will be personally supervising the editing of Tiger Zinda Hai. Director Ali Abbas Zafar has no objections over Salman’s collaborative spirit. In fact he welcomes it.
Says a source close to the development, “After the failure of Tubelight, Salman is not taking any chances. There were many points on which Salman Khan disagreed with director Kabir Khan but he gave in to Kabir’s decision. But this time Salman will make sure that Tiger Zinda Hai is edited as per his own vision of the film.”
In fact sources say Salman Khan has gradually been inching towards the technical side of filmmaking. Dabangg 2 which Arbaaz directed was personally edited by Salman.
Close friends of Salman Khan say he is “most definitely” going to direct a film soon.
Shah Rukh Khan’s recent film Jab Harry Met Sejal has proved to be a big disaster at the box office. Since the past two years, Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t having a great run. Yet, his films were having respectable figures at the box office. Dilwale and Raees underperformed but managed to go beyond 130-crore-mark. Fan failed to cross 100-crore-mark but it was argued it was not a typical entertainer. With Jab Harry Met Sejal, all excuses dried up as it was a romantic film starring a prominent actress, Anushka Sharma, as his co-star and replete with foot-tapping songs. Yet, it failed to excite audiences.
So now what should be the next step of Shah Rukh Khan to get back in the top league? Harveen Singh, distributor from Rajasthan, said, “Shah Rukh Khan should play roles that suit his age.” Another leading distributor Rajesh Thadani also had the same views. He said, “He should choose the right kind of roles. He can’t be romancing younger heroines at this age. He should gravitate towards mature, content-driven roles.”
Trade analyst Atul Mohan feels action can work for him. He implied, “He should do more action roles and films like Don. Don 3 is a great idea. His role in Raees was also interesting but the film suffered due to clash with Kaabil. Not just action but even what he did in Dear Zindagi was impressive. Chak De India was highly inspiring.” He added, “There can be some elements of romance as well. Or maybe Karan Johar can perhaps come up with good romantic film for him. Even doing a sci-fi won’t be wrong, provided the script is first-rate. Ra.One, I feel, came a bit too early.” But he had an important piece of advice here, “Whatever he does, it should be one level up.” Rajesh Thadani also emphasized for films that have a bigger appeal. “The narration can’t be abstract that would limit the audiences,” he said. Another reputed trade analyst Amod Mehra was more critical about Shah Rukh Khan’s choice of directors. He said, “He is doing silly films. Signing Farah Khan and Rohit Shetty’s films sounded the death knell for him.”
Both Atul Mohan and Amod Mehra admitted that Shah Rukh Khan can take a leaf out of Aamir Khan’s choice of films. Atul Mohan said, “Gradually, he should plan to go the Amitabh Bachchan way. Even at this age, Big B is playing prominent roles and getting appreciation. Also, what Aamir Khan did in Dangal is something that Shah Rukh Khan should take note of. At the same time, once in a while, he can also do an action film. In short, he should plan his moves for the next five years.” Amod Mehra gave an in-depth analysis to justify why Aamir Khan can serve as a good source of inspiration. He explained, “Aamir Khan is not doing the typical hero roles. He’s doing character-based roles and his track record is impeccable. Look at his recent films. He played an alien in PK; in Dhoom 3, he was the anti-hero and also had a double role. In Dangal, he played a father to four girls and he was not even there in the climax. In 3 Idiots, he was one of the three heroes. Shah Rukh Khan should follow Aamir Khan’s path. He should not try to be young. He should play Shah Rukh Khan the actor and not Shah Rukh Khan the hero”
Shah Rukh Khan’s next film is with Aanand L Rai in which he plays a dwarf. Again, it’s an unconventional film and it remains to be seen if it works for the superstar. Harveen Singh said, “That particular film seems interesting. Working with a hit director is always a safer bet. He needs a good director and a good script” Amod Mehra however is unsure. He opined, “Doing Aanand L Rai’s film is a gamble – it may or not work. But at least, he has something interesting lined up.”
Self-acclaimed critic Kamaal R Khan’s advice for Shah Rukh Khan shocked us all. He matter-of-factly said, “Shah Rukh Khan should now retire and sit at home. He should launch his son Aryan. Maybe he can play his father’s role in his film” And what are his views on Aanand L Rai’s film? “He should shelve that film,” he signed off!
Salman Khan Films is on a roll. Despite the debacle of Tubelight, Salman Khan is gearing up to launch multiple films under his home production. One film will launch Aayush Sharma, his brother-in-law, who married his sister Arpita in November 2015. An official announcement for this film will be done soon.
However, what many are not aware is that Salman Khan is also producing one more film, which is also reported to launch new faces. This film will be a co-production between Murad Khetani and Ashwin Varde. Both the actor and the actress will be newcomers and the trio is in the process of finalizing the script and director.
This is not the first time that Salman Khan Films is launching debutants. Right after their first film Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015, the production house unveiled Hero in the same year, and it starred newbies Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty. The film however underperformed at the box office. Murad Khetani meanwhile has produced the recently released Mubarakan, Manish Paul’s debut film Mickey Virus and Akshay Kumar-Lisa Haydon starrer The Shaukeens. Ashwin Varde was also one of the producers on Mubarakan and The Shaukeens and in addition to that, he had also co-produced Akshay Kumar’s comedy action film Boss in 2013.
Sunny Deol and brother Bobby Deol are gearing up for the release of Poster Boys, that is releasing next month, on September 8. But, they have quietly started work on Yamla Pagla Deewana 3 without any attention and fanfare. The film went on floors on Thursday, August 10 in Hyderabad.
Navaniat Singh, a well-known Punjabi filmmaker, is the director. Sunny Deol is the producer along with Jayantilal Gada, owner of PEN India Ltd. Sunny Deol, however, hasn’t started shooting for the film. It’s Bobby Deol and Dharmendra who are filming for the film at present and Sunny Deol is expected to join his father and brother soon.
Bobby Deol took to Twitter today in the evening to share a picture from the sets. It features him with his father and both are seated on a scooter with a sidecar. The two-wheeler and the fact that there’s Dharmendra immediately reminds one of the 1975 classic Sholay. “Yamla and Deewana waiting for the Pagla to join ... on set YPD - phir se!!” is the caption along with the picture.
Yamla Pagla Deewana released in 2011 and featured all three from the Deol family. It was directed by Samir Karnik and proved to be a huge hit. The sequel, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, directed by Sangeeth Sivan released in 2013 and it proved to be a flop at the box office. It remains to be seen if the third instalment manages to succeed at the box office.
Salman Khan has launched plenty of newcomers and given them a platform in Bollywood. By now, it is a common knowledge that Aayush Sharma, who married Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan in 2015, is the next person who will be launched in a grand fashion by the superstar.
As per the latest report, Salman Khan has locked three scripts for Aayush Sharma’s debut. He is currently in the final round of consultation and is all set to select the best script out of them. It is also being told that in a month’s time, he will be making this decision and announcing the film to the world.
And that’s not all. The announcement of Aayush Sharma’s debut film will coincide with the announcement of Salman Khan’s next film, which would be released on Eid 2018.
At one point, Aayush Sharma was speculated to be launched with a film titled Raat Baaki. Initially, this film was to star Fawad Khan and Katrina Kaif. But, after the Uri attacks last year, a ban was placed on the Pakistani actors. As a result, Fawad Khan had to be dropped from the film. It remains to be seen if it’s indeed Raat Baaki or is it some other film that will serve as Aayush Sharma’s launch pad. Watch this space.
Two days ago, we reported that Salman Khan refunded Rs. 32.50 crores to the distributors after his recent film Tubelight flopped at the box office. However, it has come to light that the superstar would be refunding Rs. 33.50 crores to the various affected parties.
The calculation was done by Salman Khan’s father Salim Khan as well as C.I distributor Aditya Chowksey and they arrived at a figure of Rs. 85 crores as losses [Rs. 70 crores loss in India and Rs. 15 crores loss in overseas - Middle East only] incurred by the distributors. Hence the decision was taken to refund approximately 40% of the losses incurred.
The disbursal of compensation was done as follows
Rs. 20 crores to various territorial distributors who purchased the rights from NH Studioz.
Rs. 5 crores directly to NH Studioz – they had acquired the all-India rights for reportedly Rs. 132 crores.
Rs. 7 crores to U.A.E/G.C.C distributor [since rest of the overseas was distributed by Yash Raj Films on a commission basis]
Rs. 1.5 crores to various exhibitors [approximately 700] who had booked the movie on minimum guarantee or on fixed hire. The distributors have been asked to send across the signed slip confirming the disbursal and receipt to these exhibitors.
Tubelight released on June 23 and was expected to be a big blockbuster. However, the film failed to impress majority of the viewers and ultimately, the film that was expected to cross Rs. 300 crore, settled at less than Rs. 120 crore.

But till date, the team has kept mum on who has been cast. Earlier, there were reports that Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s daughter Sara Ali Khan would make her debut with Student Of The Year 2. But it later came to light that that she is debuting with Kedarnath, opposite Sushant Singh Rajput. Then came the news that Sridevi’s daughter Jahnvi Kapoor would be cast. Last month, the name of Tara Sutaria cropped up as one of the actresses in this sequel.
The latest reports claim that along with Tara Sutaria, it’s Ananya Panday, daughter of actor Chunky Panday, who has bagged Student Of The Year 2. For those who don’t know, the beautiful Ananya Panday has already made waves since she is Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan’s friend. Suhana has posted lot of pictures with Ananya, many of which went viral. Few months ago, popular stylist and designer Seema Khan, who is also Sohail Khan’s wife, posted a picture of a hot-looking Ananya Panday, wearing a beautiful pink lehenga. Again, the picture got a lot of attention.
